Well, it was after all just as you guys said. A rubber
mount was not in place. I then experienced a heckuva
time getting the tank back on with the rubber mounts
in place because this time it was too tight.
I just got the bike late December '99. So I guess
whoever had taken it off previously got in a hurry
and missed it.
Tank is on fine now, thanks a million for everyones advice.
